Clean energy technologies: Ford joins First Movers Coalition

Ford Motor Company has announced its membership in the First Movers Coalition, a global initiative that explores purchasing power and supply chains intending to create the first markets for innovative clean energy technologies.

“Ford has a strong record of automotive sustainability and can pride itself on being the only U.S. automaker to support California for tough vehicle emissions standards. It is also the first automaker to join the Ministry of Energy’s Better Climate Challenge and commit to reducing vehicle manufacturing emissions. Now, as part of the First Movers Coalition, we are targeting the environmental impact of our supply chain by investing in green steel and aluminum. This coalition has the potential to build the future of zero-emission transportation. A much-needed initiative for the well-being of people and the well-being of the planet,” said Chris Smith, director of government affairs at Ford.

Note that more than 50 companies worth approximately $8.5 billion on five continents now form this coalition, to help commercialize zero-carbon technologies. For its part, Ford is committed to purchasing at least 10% “green” steel and aluminum by 2030. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality on a global scale for all of its vehicles, its operations, and its supply chain no later than 2050. “Reducing emissions to a carbon-neutral level by 2050 is possible if we invest in the right technologies and develop them over the next decade. said Sue Slaughter, director of supply chain sustainability at Ford.
